Friday Features: Fall Brings Earlier Nights

I actually don't mind the sun setting earlier this time of year.  There's something very cozy about having to turn the lights on and relax into a comfortable chair a little earlier in the day.

With that in mind I went searching for handmade items in our group that are or could be inspired by the night.

New Media or Technique Monthly Challenge.

September is about new beginnings.  As the kids (and adults alike) head back to school, many artists, reminiscent of our school days, get the itch to learn something new too.

Nancy of N. Fallon Design Studio came up with this challenge, inspired by Storybeader's January challenge, to "set aside that time to work on and complete a new technique that you admire."  We've all got those projects sitting on our desks, or ideas floating around in our heads for media or techniques that are outside of our normal work and would love to find time to work on.

So let's find that time!  Make something just for you, or just for fun.  Learn a new technique in your own medium or experiment with a new medium.  Combine techniques, research a new style of work to inspire your project, or just dig through that box of projects you've not found the time to work on and get going!

Pintuck Pleats- New technique to me!

Don't forget to check back sometime around the 25th to see what the other participants have created and posted on their personal blogs. See you then!

As members of the Blogging Business Artisans we are required to participate in 6 of the 12 monthly challenges per year.  Additional requirements and to see future challenges click here.  If you would like to become a Blogging Business Artisan, check out what that means here.

Worktable Wednesday- Art Journaling by Storybeader.

Worktable Wednesday features something new happening with the BBA members or something of interest we spy online.

Deb, the storybeader, and of The Storybeader's Journal, has been into art journaling for quite some time now.  I've read her blog and often admired her dedication to working in these image journals, creating page after page of art reflective of prompts, skills she's studying, and whatever's going on in her life.

Recently she went on a trip to Italy, and made it a goal to create journal pages reflective of trip highlights.  I was so fascinated by this concept: what a great way to remember the details of your trip when you get home and for years to come.   Let's take a peek at a few pages:

"We started off on American Airlines but the plane was cancelled and we flew on United instead."

Worktable Wednesday- 80 Custom Oven Mits by Pasque Flower Creations!

Worktable Wednesday features something new happening with the BBA members or something of interest we spy online.

Our own LeAnn of Pasque Flower Creations has been busy sewing her fingers to the bone recently attempting to fill an astronomically large custom order- 80 Oven Mits!!  She's up to her elbows in poppies, & up to her ears in her "Metro Cafe" style fabric!

You can read the details on her blog, but here's her progress so far:

Quilting mits!

This poppy fabric is lovely, but LeAnn comments that she feels, "a little like Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, getting a bit weary looking at all those poppies."  Wouldn't you??

38 Metro Cafe Mits Done, 18 Cuffed Mits in Progress!

70 down, 10 to go!

The latest progress report states that she had 10 partially finished mits left to go!  I'm sure by now LeAnn has them completed, but what a marathon!

Worktable Wednesday- Sher Hastings Design

Worktable Wednesday features something new happening with the BBA members or something of interest we spy online.

Today I'm featuring Sher of Sher Hastings Designs.  Sher creates printable PDF patterns to help organize your life & just for fun.

Weekly Planner

I really love this weekly meal planner.  If only I was this organized every week!  How nice to have a place next to the days to add in needed grocery items or recipe ideas!

High Tea Bag Envelopes

Aren't these tea bag envelopes adorable?  What a lovely personalized packaging idea for a care box or little gift.

The Latte Cart Graphic and Clipart set
Continuing on our food theme (I wonder what's on my mind!), Sher also creates clip art & graphic packages for digital scrap booking.  This set would be perfect for recipe cards!

I hope you will check out the other lovely listings Sher has in her shop!

Worktable Wednesday- My Purpose, My World.

Worktable Wednesday features something new happening with the BBA members or something of interest we spy online.  I know Edi just wrote about Erika of Artful Rising a few weeks ago, but this girl has so many new things on the table that she needs another post!  Last week Edi focused on Erika's inspirational journals in her etsy shop Artful Rising.

Since then, Erika has launched a new project, My Purpose, My world.  This blog serves as so many things: it is a forum for women to come together to discuss "their hopes, dreams, & fears in a safe place."  It is an outlet for Erika to use her experiences to encourage readers to live their dreams and change their world.  Additionally, Erika offers workshops wherein participants can use art journaling & thinking/ writing prompts to discover their purpose and challenge their current notions.

Her mantra proclaims, "When you were a little girl you had big dreams.  Start living them today."

Provoked to start this project by a small mistake leading to the loss of her former blog & project Artful Rising, Erika chose to keep her head held high and dig deeply within herself to uncover her own true desires and reinvent her brand.  Erika is a truly motivational person living her life to the fullest which is why she has so much to teach others.

I encourage you to visit My Purpose, My World, and see if you can't find something that begs you to open your ears & your heart!

Worktable Wednesday features something new happening with the BBA members or something of interest we spy online.

Teresa has been busy as a bee lately dying, beading, and creating loads of new items for her etsy shop, Lilee's Gram Knits.  I spied this blog post where she reveals all of her gorgeous newbies.  Be sure to check out the post for all of the details, but here are a few of my favorites:

Mardi Gras Roving
Bonus photo:  I am fascinated with her dying process!
Mushroom Yarn Markers
Pattern Place Marks

Don't you just love her color sense?  The brighter the better, I say.  Keep up with the artist, Teresa, on her blog Lilee's Gram Knits
