Blogging for Business

print by Jennifer Ramos

Some of us dream of making money from our blogs and hoping that we will be among the few that garner enough income to warrant quitting our day job. There are millions of blogs and websites we compete with and it may seem daunting or impossible to capture a bit of market share. And if you are like me, there are many questions you may have on what to consider in trying to make money from your online site.

Here are two helpful posts:
  • Yes, I Make Money From My Blog by Beneath My Heart. She shares the different ways she makes money; perhaps one of these will work for you?
  • Josh dishes on Homemaker on a Dime about worked and didn't for him. And he is honest that you need traffic first!

There are many more sites on this topic but this ought to give you a taste. What other articles should we check out?

QUESTION: Where are you traffic wise? Can you generate income from your blog?

Great links...thanks!

I had to go take a look at my stats after reading this. I had 2,444 pageviews last month and I have an average around 80 pageviews per day.
I think I would like at least 100 pageviews per day to start making money.

The stats are certainly interesting! So many more page views than comments. The page views and comments are not necessarily in equal ratios.

It's also interesting to look at your Traffic Sources which reveals referring URLs referring sites, and keyword searches. An intriguing one ion mine is "wall stickers cats."

Interesting observations and experiences from both bloggers. From a reader POV, I'd have to say that for me the ads only become intrusive when they have no relationship to the rest of the blog. I would think that having ads related to content would also increase ad-clicks. But I'm no expert!

Great food for thought. Those articles are helpful about defining the basics. I'm starting to think about all that, but know that I have to find ways to grow my blog readership before I can get there!

I'll have to check these out. After reading Edi's comment I checked out my stats and I have over 1,000 page views a day with 250 already today. So I need to know how to make money!

I've noticed my page views are really inconsistent. Some days I'll have 30, other days I'll have 500. Sometimes I know why (if I was featured somewhere) and other days I have no idea.

Thanks for sharing this info.

Since Edi mentioned it, I went and checked, too. I'm shocked that I've had steadily climbing traffic all of 2011 and have averaged just under 200 visitors per day the last couple months. That does seem like enough to think more seriously about advertising. Thanks for the resources!
